Several years ago I got my foot in the door at The University at Buffalo photographing some of the guest speaker series. After an extensive background check by who nows what department for security, a collegue (Steve Morse) and I were chosen to photograph the Dalai Lama's visit to UB. 3 days, from touch down at the airport, visits with faculty, speaking on stage, walks around campus and finally back to his plane at Prior Aviation. Among other great names that came through the doors and in front of my lense, Konan O'Brien, Smash Mouth & Cheryl Strayed.
I have grown my relationship with UB and have been working with the marketing and communications teams of School of Engineering, Chem/Bio, Social Work, Nursing, Pharmacy, Architecture, Life & Services, and the Law department.
I have had the opportunity to photograph fun events, emotional moments and create images that have been used in marketing material to promote the departments. There are amazing staff at UB pushing for each department to be better and to draw in more and more students. UB is growing more than you know.
A recent project I have been working on with Alan Kegler has been capturing student portraits for the Student First Fund. An amazing fund created to help students in need. These are some design pieces created by Alan to showcase each student. They are the perfcet size to hold onto, can be mailed easily and have just enough information in them, not to much where you won't read it.
We started photogrpahing some new students yesterday for some new pieces that will be coming out soon. Its always exciting to try to get to know someone in a short amount of time we have with them. Finding out about their path at UB, where it is going to take them, what their hobbies are, such as being certified in scuba. Finding out Moses is taking 24 credit hrs, WHAT! I don't think I was able to handle mroe than 12 when I was at Bryant & Stratton. The students families must be really proud of each of them. Keep an eye out if on campus or in the mail for these pieces. If you find a photo with photo credit: Onion Studio, Dylan Buyskes take a photo and send it our way or tag it on facebook and you will recieve a $50 credit towards a photo session.
